Community Building

Since its inception in 1993, the Community Foundation of Prince Edward Island has made a significant impact on the Island community. Many Islanders have benefited through CFPEI grants to programs and services in areas such as: arts and culture, recreation and sports, health care, education, youth, and the environment. This impact has been made possible through the generosity of our donors, individuals and organizations who give their time and expertise, and their passion they have to shape the Island’s future for generations to come.

When we connect donors to community needs and opportunities we help to build a strong and resilient society. Community Foundations bring donors to the table as community builders. We take the broadest view of what a community is and what it needs to succeed. We take the long term view for our communities.

As we approach our country’s 150th birthday in 2017, Governor General David Johnston has challenged Canadians to imagine our country as it could be – a “smart and caring nation” that holds promise for everyone. Our Foundation has joined with Community Foundations from all across Canada in responding to the Governor General’s vision; a vision that will see more communities served by Community Foundations from coast to coast to coast.

Islanders are generous – claiming $33.2 million in charitable donations in 2014, making PEI the second most charitable province in Canada. (link to CBC: )
