Granting Impacts

Community Foundations are unique in our ability to make an impact in so many diverse areas of community need. Our donors, with gifts large and small, help us to collectively continue to improve our communities both now and into the future.

By working directly with our donors, we help them contribute to a cause or need that is important to them. We are also constantly monitoring our community; what are the most pressing local needs? Which community organizations are working to address these needs? And how can we, working through our donors, help support and strengthen our Island communities?

With this knowledge, we make grants and direct resources to the most appropriate areas. We stay abreast of the emerging issues and foster both giving and volunteerism throughout Island communities. We have the flexibility to direct our granting in response to different areas of need, and we can bring organizations and groups together to better understand important needs and changes happening in our communities.

Since 1993 our Foundation has, on behalf of our many donors, distributed over $2 million back into Island communities through community grants, scholarship grants, and flow-through donations.

Areas supported included: arts, culture and heritage; heath and social services; education and literacy; sports and recreation; children and youth services; services to seniors; and the environment.
