Our History

Community Foundations are committed to strengthening and supporting community vitality. 1993Since 1993, CFPEI has been connecting donors to community needs and helping them invest in building strong and resilient places to live, work and play. We are also part of a national network of more than 190 Community Foundations across Canada.

Building Community Vitality

The Foundation will promote and support an Island of smart and caring communities enriching the lives of all Islanders.

The Foundation engages donors and connects them with community causes that enrich the quality of life of the residents of Prince Edward Island. The Community Foundation of PEI is committed to strengthening and supporting the vitality of Island Communities. Community vitality is the unique spirit that flourishes when people believe their community holds possibilities for everyone.

Building Community Vitality

The CFPEI does three key things to build community vitality:

  1. Brings donors to the table as community builders helping them formulate and realize their philanthropic goals; matching their interests and concerns with local needs and organizations; and finding innovative ways to give their investments lasting impact
  2. Takes the broadest view of what a community is and what it needs to succeed; this is why our grants support a wide range of initiatives from: shelter, sustenance and care for those most in need; heath care; education; arts, culture and heritage; recreation and sports; and the environment.
  3. Identifies long-term needs and opportunities; helping our communities become resilient, resourceful, and ready for the future they want

  • Strengthen CFPEI impact in communities through increased fund development and granting activities
  • Build the unrestricted Community Fund that will allow the CFPEI the flexibility to respond to a wider range of community needs and causes
  • Engage Island communities through research initiatives
