The Community Foundation of PEI is constantly monitoring the needs of Islanders. We seek out ways to nurture and strengthen the many community-building initiatives and activities that happen in our communities every day.
What are the issues Islanders are facing? Which community organizations are working to address these needs? And how can CFPEI, working through the generosity of our donors, help provide additional support to these areas to help strengthen our Island communities?
Through the creation of endowments, the majority of our philanthropic donors ultimately designate their gifts to a particular cause, while others leave the decision to the Community Foundation’s Granting Committee. It is the wish of these donors that we direct the funds, through the CFPEI Community Impact Grant, to an annual theme that represents a current and pressing need in the community.
For 2018, CFPEI will direct these gifts to initiatives focused on supporting the mental health of Islanders.
“Our committee has really paid attention to the way society has been working hard to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness,” said Granting Committee Chair Jeff MacKenzie. “We recognize the important work already being done in this area by groups across Prince Edward Island and we would really like to help ensure this works continues and perhaps stimulate new projects as well.”
The Community Impact Grant supporting Mental Health Initiatives will offer project-based funding to selected registered charitable organizations that provide mental health services across the Island. Applications for project proposals ranging from $100 to $5,000 that must be delivered and completed in 2018 are now being accepted.
