Doug Dennis Outstanding Public Service Award
The Doug Dennis Outstanding Public Service Award was established at CFPEI in 2019 by Doug’s son, Alan Dennis and grandson, Alec Dennis, in honour of his time as an Island civil servant from 1959-1986.
Most of Doug’s service was as Deputy Minister of Finance, but it also included periods as Secretary to Treasury Board, Deputy Minister of Transportation and Public Works, Deputy Minister of Tourism, and Comptroller of the Hospital Services Commission. He served under five premiers in a period of great change. He was central to the acquisition of the government’s first computer and the conversion of government operations to use computers, the transformation of 300 independent school districts into regional school units, the negotiation of Phase 2B the Development Plan, and the founding of the Atlantic Lottery Corporation and the PEI Energy Corporation (on whose boards he served).
The Doug Dennis Outstanding Public Service Award is intended to provide recognition to an individual or group that works for the Provincial Government and has made an outstanding contribution to the residents and Government of PEI. The employee or group should demonstrate an outstanding public contribution to the residents and Government of PEI by demonstrating the Public Service values of; respect, integrity, excellence and accountability. The employee or group should help to the lift the people around them, work to make the organization a better place and improve the overall life of Islanders.
In addition to the recognition, the award winner will have a $1,000.00 contribution made in their honour to the Canadian Charity (or charities ) of their choice.
