Encouraging and supporting post-secondary students is the reason some donors turn to the Community Foundation of PEI. The goals of the resulting student awards vary widely. Some support graduates of a specific high school, college, university, or program, while others focus on a loved one’s special interests. This Scholarship Fund was established by the Architects Association of PEI (AAPEI) to help Island students pursue degreed studies (bachelor, masters, doctoral) in the field of architecture. This scholarship is available to a student from Prince Edward Island attending a Canadian School of Architecture having completed at least one year and continuing in an undergraduate or post graduate degree program in Architecture. It is awarded on the basis of academic achievement, design ability, performance in projects, leadership ability and a demonstrated concern for the welfare of others. The scholarship may be renewed on the same basis at the discretion of the AAPEI.
Arthur & Theresa (Gillis) MacDonald were born, raised and educated in rural Prince Edward Island. They never forgot their roots and had great compassion for children and youth. In her Last Will and Testament, Theresa established a trust fund to benefit students continuing their education that could benefit from financial assistance.
The Brodie McCarthy Memorial Leadership Scholarship Fund was established by the PEI Rugby Community at the Community Foundation of PEI to honour the life of Brodie McCarthy in awarding an annual scholarship to a graduating student from Montague Regional High School who will continue their studies in a post-secondary institution.
The Christian Gavard Memorial Fund was established by Claude and Crystal Gavard to honour the life of their son, Christian Gavard. Christian Gavard was a loving husband, brother, son, friend, teacher, musician, actor, and producer. The Christian Gavard Memorial Fund provides annual grants to allow children to attend a week at Island Rock Camp.
The award is granted to an Island student entering their third or fourth year of the Doctor of Dental Surgery program or equivalent program at Dalhousie University, and who has a combination of achieving high marks and of being actively involved in volunteer activities at dental school student organization or similar.
The Gordon Doughart Memorial Award has been established to assist a Grade 12 student from Prince Edward Island who plans to attend Holland College and whose family has been impacted by cancer.
The Bourse d’études Hervé H. Poirier was established in 2019 by Hervé H. Poirier as a means to support a graduating student from École-sur-Mer, Summerside, who wishes to continue his or her studies at a college or university level where French is the main language of education.
Joan Auld Scholarship Fund
To award an annual scholarship to a student enrolled in full-time studies in a craft-related field and a recognized post-secondary institution.
Joseph Spriet Scholarship
The annual award is intended for residents of PEI who are entered in a course of study in a public post-secondary institution in one of the following: Human Services, Business, Sports or Agriculture. The scholarships recognizes the importance of education, sport, and community involvement in the development of youth and their accomplishments.
Joyce Paynter Memorial Education Award
This fund was established in 2019 by friends and family of Joyce Paynter, to provide a memorial award to a deserving student attending UPEI, Holland College or Collège Acadie Î.-P.-É., to pay tribute to the legacy she left serving her country, her family and her community and in particular, The Royal Canadian Legion.
Lorne and Ruby Bonnell Scholarship
This Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by the late Dr. Lorne and Ruby Bonnell to support a student graduating from UPEI who has been accepted as a Canadian University for the study of a scientific field. This Scholarship is delivered through the University of Prince Edward Island.
Lowell Phillips Scholarship Fund
This Scholarship Fund was established in 1989 by friends and associates of Lowell Phillips to honour and celebrate how Mr. Phillips faced adversity and courageously overcame challenges throughout his life.
Montague – Mount Hamilton Goodwill Games Scholarship Fund
This annual scholarship was established in 2018 by the Hennebery Family to recognize the role their parents, Mary and Reg Hennebery, played in establishing and supporting the Montague – Mount Hamilton Goodwill Games. Participants who played in the Montague – Mount Hamilton Goodwill Games are eligible.
Noreen and George Corrigan Scholarship Fund – Learning Disability
The renewable scholarship was created by Noreen Corrigan in 2013 in order to provide financial assistance to students with specific learning disabilities, so they may be inspired to pursue their dreams through post-secondary education.
Noreen and George Corrigan Scholarship – Single Mother
This renewable scholarship was established in 2013 by Noreen Corrigan in order to provide financial assistance to single mothers who have increased financial challenges when raising children.
Orin Carver Scholarship Fund
This Scholarship Fund was established in 1991 at the close of the Canada Winter Games to honour and recognize the leadership of Orin Carver who served as President of the games. Mr. Carver passed in 2001.
PEI Protestant Children’s Trust Bursary
The PEI Protestant Children’s Trust Bursary was established by the PEI Protestant Children’s Trust in recognition of its long association with the care and education of Prince Edward Island’s Protestant young people. The Scholarship Fund awards are for Holland College students in financial need.
St. Andrew’s Society Scholarship Fund
Requirements for applicants include being a full-time university student in either of the first three years of university, a resident of Prince Edward Island, a Roman Catholic and of Scottish descent, having either a Scottish surname or having at least 2 Scottish grandparents who were born with a Scottish surname.
St. John Lodge No. 1 – Ross Estates Bursary
The St. John’s Lodge – Ross Estates Bursary was established by the estate of John and Muriel Ross, and transferred to the Community Foundation of PEI in 2012. This Scholarship Fund awards are granted to a direct descendent of a PEI Mason.
Stephen Turner Memorial Scholarship
The Stephen Turner Memorial Scholarship was created in the memory of Stephen Turner, a UPEI and Holland College graduate, community leader and friend, whose life was taken unexpectedly. It is desired that the recipient be a person who has demonstrated outstanding community leadership, academic success, personality, contributed to Island life and has participated in Island politics.
Summerside-Natick International Friendship Hockey Fund
In 2001, founding members of the International Friendship Hockey Series Committee established the Summerside-Natick International Friendship Hockey Fund. This Scholarship Fund provides a scholarship to a student, involved in the Summerside Area Minor Hockey Association, entering into their first year of post-secondary studies.
TRH Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Legacy Scholarship Fund
This Scholarship Fund was established in 2010 with initial funding by Mary Dunea and the Government of PEI to mark the visit of Their Royal Highness Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Prince Edward Island. Income earned from the fund provides scholarships to PEI students attending a PEI post-secondary institution. Students in financial need and who demonstrate leadership experience and volunteer support to causes attributed to the Royal couple, such as disadvantaged youth, military families, and conservation, may apply.
Thomas and Betty Hall Entrance Scholarship
The Thomas and Betty Hall Entrance Scholarship was created by Thomas and Betty Hall. Thomas and Betty Hall have a long history of supporting areas in education, culture, PEI heritage and the environment. This scholarship will be granted to a student entering a BEd program at UPEI that meet the eligibility criteria. This Scholarship is delivered through the University of Prince Edward Island. Thomas and Betty Hall Excellence Award
The Thomas and Betty Hall Scholarship was created by Thomas and Betty Hall. Thomas and Betty Hall have a long history of supporting areas in education, culture, PEI heritage and the environment. This award will be granted to a student who has demonstrated qualities that are evident in teaching excellence as demonstrated through their BEd study and meet the eligibility requirements. Willard F. Cameron Scholarship
This scholarship endowment fund was established as a tribute to Willard F. Cameron who passed away in January 2017. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student attending a Canadian University or College.
