The “Bourse d’études Hervé H. Poirier” was established by Hervé H. Poirier as a mean to support a graduating student from École-sur-Mer, Summerside, who wishes to continue his or her studies at a college or university level where French is the main language of education. This “Bourse” will be given on a yearly basis unless no candidate has met the criteria.
A scholarship of at least 1000$ will be awarded annually to a graduating student, as submitted by the school committee, who meets the following criteria:
- A graduating student of École-sur-Mer who wishes to pursue post-secondary studies in French in the fall or within a maximum of a 2-year delay.
- The candidate must have completed at least 2 full years of high school at ÉSM with the following exception. The graduate has done most of his/her schooling at ÉSM but did not attend 2 years of high school because of a move-away of the family or for truly exceptional reasons.
- A graduating student who has shown true and obvious interest in learning “standard” French during his/her years at ÉSM as well as pride in speaking French in school and extracurricular activities. Note: Although a factor to be considered, having the best marks in French classes is not a criteria for automatic selection.
- In the case that there are no students meeting these requirements, no bursary will be awarded that year. In future years, the Committee will have the option of giving a second bursary if the quality and the number of candidates justify it.
The École-sur-Mer Scholarship Committee will select the winning candidate(s) each year.
