The 2024 Jake Seeks Charitable Beneficiary Partner

The 2024 edition of “The Jake” will take place on the weekend of September 27-29, 2024 and will be open to anyone wishing to participate.

The Jake is an annual Run-Bike-Walk event in memory of Jacob Simmons of Belfast, PEI – an avid athlete who was killed at the age of 27 by an impaired driver while cycling on June 12, 2020.

The event began in August, 2020 when a group of 22 current and retired PEI education administrators participated in a biking event on selected portions of the Confederation Trail, and in the process raised $850 towards the School Food Program. The participants very much enjoyed the camaraderie, the opportunity to connect with current and former colleagues, the exercise in the outdoors, the fact that they were making a contribution to the education system, and decided that it was an event worth continuing.

Since the first year, the event has supported two different causes, the Jacob Simmons Sports Scholarship (2021) and MADD Charlottetown & Eastern PEI (2022 & 2023).

The organizing committee of The 2024 Jake has decided to seek applications from PEI charities to become the beneficiary of this year’s event funds. Applications are now open and will close on July 15th!
